Comic Book Reviews for This Week: 11/09/2024

Happy new comic book day! It's another exciting week in comics, and we're back with reviews for some of the biggest releases. Here’s a look at this week’s picks from Marvel, DC, Image, and beyond.

Absolute Power: Task Force VII #6

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The individual story arcs are stellar, but they don’t come together as seamlessly as one would hope. That said, the series keeps you hooked with its intriguing elements and has done enough to ensure continued investment in the ongoing tales.

The Amazing Spider-Man #57

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zeb Wells does a great job weaving Spidey’s lower-stakes New York adventures with larger threats, and Tombstone's arc is a standout. John Romita Jr.’s art shines in places but feels a bit rushed in others.

Star Wars #50

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This final issue of Star Wars felt more like an epilogue than a grand conclusion. While it had compelling elements, long-time readers might find the finale underwhelming, especially after investing so much time in this series.

Ultimate Black Panther #8

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bryan Hill's big ideas are beginning to bloom, and the story’s direction feels more purposeful than before. Stefano Caselli’s artwork adds gravitas to the story, particularly in the brutal war scenes.

Wolverine #1

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This new era for Wolverine doesn’t disappoint when it comes to action and violence. However, while the new creative team does solid work, the first issue doesn’t quite reach the heights expected after the character’s massive year in 2024.

The Department of Truth #25

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Issue #25 is a visual spectacle, offering longtime readers some closure while setting up thrilling new possibilities. The guest artists blend beautifully with Simmonds’ cerebral style, making this a stunning issue.

Geiger #6

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A quieter but emotionally resonant issue, focusing on Barney, the two-headed mutant wolf, after the battle with The Electrician. It's a touching exploration of humanity through the eyes of animals, and the artwork remains top-notch.

Space Ghost #5

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

David Pepose captures the heart of Space Ghost’s legacy while pushing the series into new emotional territory. Jonathan Lau’s art and Andrew Dalhouse’s colours elevate this exciting revival.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Michelangelo takes centre stage in this issue, balancing his glamorous life in Japan with a deeper longing for family. The creative team pulls off another stellar issue, blending action, emotional depth, and some hilarious moments.
